Cellular Field Hotels

On January 31, 2003 the White Sox announced that they had reached an agreement with wireless service provider U.S. Cellular to rename their ballpark U.S. Cellular Field. The 23-year deal will pay the White Sox $68 million over 20 years. Designed to hold 44,321 fans, the new ballpark produced the franchise single-season attendance record (2,934,154) in its first year.

Chicago baseball fans have been watching the White Sox play at the U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, IL, since April 18, 1991. The new ballpark opened across the street from Comiskey Park. The White Sox played at Comiskey Park from 1910 to 1990.

There are several things to do at the park besides watch ball games. Children can learn the fundamentals of baseball from a White Sox Training Academy Coach in the Comcast Fundamentals area. This area has a wiffle ball diamond, batting cages and pitching cages. Park visitors can test their pitching speed at the Slim Jim Speed Pitch. Shops at the park include the White Sox Hall of Fame Gift Shop, the New Era Cap Corner and the Majestic Custom T-Shirt Shop.

A variety of food is served in the concession stands at the park. Hot dogs are sold at the All-Star Stands. Hot dogs, burgers and chicken are on the menu at the PrivateBank Fan Deck. Vegetarians will find items that appeal to them at Veggie Lovers! Guests with a sweet tooth will enjoy the desserts at Sweet Spot and Winning Ugly Is Sweet.

More types of cuisine are available at restaurants within a mile of the U.S. Cellular Field. Ramova Grill serves omelets and French toast for breakfast. Customers can have homemade chili for dinner at the restaurant or order a quart of chili to go. Sandwiches and seafood are served at Nana’s organic restaurant.

Hotels within three miles of the park include the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, The Wheeler Mansion and the Hilton Chicago.

The U.S. Cellular Field is easily accessible by public transportation. It is a block from the Sox-35th station on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Red Line train route. The 35th Street/’Lou’ Jones Metra train station is less than half a mile from the park. Express buses travel to the park from six locations in the Chicago suburbs.

Shedd Aquarium is less than three miles from the U.S. Cellular Park. The Skydeck at Sears Tower and the shops on the Magnificent Mile are less than five miles away from the park.
