Millennium Park Hotels
Among Millennium Park's prominent features are the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue of its kind in the United States; the interactive Crown Fountain by Jaume Plensa; the contemporary Lurie Garden designed by the team of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol Ltd, Piet Oudolf and Robert Israel; and Anish Kapoor's hugely popular Cloud Gate sculpture.
The Front Yard Of Chicago
Millennium Park sits in the heart of downtown Illinois, in what many have nicknamed the front yard of the area. Once the site of rail yards and parking lots, the area now hosts a number of free cultural activities. Visitors enjoy concerts, tours, exhibitions and other family-friendly entertainment. Only Navy Pier comes close in the number of visitors received annually.
Millennium Park is located in the northwest section of Grant Park in Chicago, close to the Lake Michigan shoreline. Park neighbors include the Buckingham Fountain, one of the largest fountains in the world, and The Art Institute of Chicago.
Construction on the complex began in 1998. After six years the area opened to great fanfare during a three day celebration. The accessibility and green design of Millennium Park have been highly praised and awarded numerous times. Located above a parking garage and commuter railway station, the area has been noted as the world’s largest rooftop garden.
No admission is charged to access the features of Millennium Park. The McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Skating Rink hosts free public skating sessions from mid-November to mid-March and also serves as an open air exhibition center. Enjoy national and international performances at the Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music and Dance, an indoor venue constructed almost entirely underground. Or just relax underneath the Grecian-style columns located in Wrigley Square.
During warmer weather, Millennium Park hosts a number of outdoor group physical fitness activities including Yoga, Pilates and Zoomba on the Great Lawn. Hear kid-friendly performances and participate in family arts & crafts during the Family Fun Festival. During a stroll, take note of locations features in popular movie and television productions including The Break Up and Prison Break.
Walk into Millennium park from other Grant Park sections using the BP Pedestrian Bridge or Nichols Bridgeway. For greener transportation solutions take the Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railway to Millennium station. Ample onsite parking is also available.
